The Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance (FDBA) is pleased to announce that the NYC Department of Transportation  (NYCDOT)has granted our application to have the section of Frederick Douglass Boulevard between 112th and 120th streets approved for participation in the Restaurant Open Streets Program. This has been a successful initiative in neighborhoods throughout New York City and also is a way that New Yorkers can show their support for restaurants that have been affected during the health crisis.

This initiative will allow you and your family to get outside and experience the neighborhood in a new way and support our fantastic food establishments. Starting on Fridays to Sundays, from September 4th and continuing until the end of October, all vehicular traffic (including cars and buses) will not be allowed on Frederick Douglass Boulevard from W. 112th to 120th streets . Please note that social distancing and face coverings are required.

During this period, restaurants will be able to serve customers on the street in the area extending 17 feet out from the curb. For those restaurants that are already serving in the parking lane, service can be extended into the street for an additional 9 feet.

The privilege of participating in the Open Streets Programs comes with responsibilities as well. Each participating restaurant has committed to assisting with maintenance of the barricades that will be placed on the end of each street. This will include helping set up the barricades at the start of each Restaurant Open Streets session and helping to move them aside at the end of each session. Participating restaurants will assist in moving the barricades in the event that emergency vehicles need to pass through. Restaurants have also committed to cleaning up their street service areas and properly disposing of all trash and recyclables at the end of the evening.

Join us in helping to make Restaurant Open Streets on FDB successful and safe. Thanks in advance for your support!
